Millions of dollars will flow into municipal coffers across the Almaguin Highlands after the Ontario government announced $1.2 billion in funding for roads, bridges and transit in the provincial budget last week.
Although two thirds of that money was immediately earmarked for the Greater Toronto area, Almaguin municipalities will get more than $2.5 million of the money remaining in the new ‘Move Ontario’ investment.
According to figures obtained from Liberal MPP Monique Smith (Nipissing) and Conservative MPP Norm Miller (Parry Sound-Muskoka), municipalities across the two ridings will get funding.
More than $1.2 million will go to municipalities on the east side of Parry Sound District. The west side of Parry Sound District will get more than $1.6 million. Municipalities in the District of Muskoka will receive almost $4.5 million. Municipalities in Nipissing, including north Almaguin, will get about $5,394,776.
