Report: The Legends of Darts Canadian Tour 2004
Home button

Landing in St. John’s in a freak snowstorm did nothing to dampen the spirits of Messrs. John Lowe and Eric Bristow as they set forth on the Canadian Tour 2004. The St. John’s Shriners did a superb job of preparing the venue and an excellent time was had by all. Of particular note was the planetary alignment which enabled both Carol and her son from the host hotel (Chateau Park ) to be participants in matches against the Legends. Not to be left out was the Potentate of the Newfoundland and Labrador St. John’s Shriners, Noble Fred White who rallied to the occasion with the battle cry: “Not since I was 12!” .

The Tour continued to Gander and Happy Valley-Goose Bay with excellent responses and a wonderful experience for all participants. The enthusiasm in Happy Valley-Goose Bay was so strong that there are plans for an appearance there by Canada’s own John “Darth Maple” Part in the Fall of this year.

May 1 brought the arrival of the Legends Tour in Toronto at the Owl’s A, N,&AF Club where several participants had the extreme thrill of actually winning a game of 501 against a Legend. (Photos will soon be available.) Sunday’s Youth Event was another pleasant experience and many youngsters were quite enthused to be in the presence of heroes they had followed on Sports Network Television.

In a final address at the Youth Event, John Lowe drew attention to the emergence of the CPDC (Canadian Professional Darts Corporation), giving it his support, and outlining the advantages of associating with such an organization. To paraphrase: Among other things, he noted that the introduction of a Canadian venture into the world of professional darts will ensure that no longer would the elite players have to travel long distances at their own expense to compete for t-shirts and plastic trophies.

Monday saw the Legends boarding their flight for England and a brief rest at home prior to the next foray into world-wide professional darts.
