Two-time world dart champion displays skills

When you’re trying to be the best, it’s always wise to learn from the best.

That’s what close to 100 North Bay and area dart players were doing Tuesday night, as former world champion John Part of Oshawa put on a demonstration at the Voyager Inn.

The event was put on by the Gateway Men’s Dart League and organized by local dart enthusiast Mark Desrosiers.

Part, who captured world championships in 1994 and again in 2003, along with four national titles and six provincial crowns, played a number of the city’s top dart performers during the evening, enabling the amateurs to test their skills against one of the country’s most celebrated professional players.

Part, who has thrown darts for the past 20 years, the last 15 on the tournament circuit, is a strong believer of the well-used saying, “show me the money.”

“I’ve played tournaments in every province. I’ve won national championships and provincial championships and a lot of other tournaments,” Part said prior to Tuesday’s action. “But they don’t pay the bills. I’m a pro dart player and I have to spend my time where I can make it constructive, in other words where I can make money.”
